Nearly Done

The final photos of the first attempt. I later found that this engraving was too large to fit the hexagon cutting around. I plan to cut out this shape to use for other purposes, possibly a necklace or wallpiece.

The Phoenix is Engraving

The Phoenix begins to take form. The whole process of engraving this shape took about two hours.

Cam Machine Cutting

The cam machine begins to cut out my first shape, this was done by connecting the Cam Machine to the computer program 2D Design, which had my engravings up.

Stage 3 Reflection

After much hard work and trial and error I've produced my final design complete with engravings on freehand.

Thanks to Terry I discovered I could have all 6 parts of my design together i one freehand document, Terry also found a way to transfer my design from Geometer's Sketchpad to Freehand while retaining the ability to modify the design without rough tracing. With this knowledge it was easy to put the design into Freehand and cut away the unneccessary, doing so gave me this:

I then had to add the engravings, this proved to be rather complicated as my plans were very elaborate. I wanted a different engraving in each triangle to create a complete picture when they were put together to create the hexagon. First I had to remove the coluar and reduce the image to lines and then had to remove the background and copy the image into Frehand to create this:
I'm glad this stage has finally been completed and look forward to cutting it out next term.

GeoShape on Freehand

I have now copied, pasted and traced over my design in freehand. I then cut out the unnecessary pieces and deleted the original design.
It has been difficult as I do not know how to use the program and figured it out on the way.
Later on I will put in my design for the engravings.

Messing around on Freehand

It's not finished, but here's my first bit of work on a program that I don't know how to use.

GeoFootball Discovery

While creating tesselating shapes along with the rest of the class last week, I found this out trying to replicate the pattern on a football.I found that as long as both the pentagon and the hexagons were regular I could not make the hexagons connect on a 2-D surface. This is because this particular tesselation only works on a sphere, and on when flattened out there is a 12° angle between each hexagon around a pentagon

Stage Two Reflection.

Going on from my design plan formulated last week, I have created a scale image of my shape on Geometers Sketchpad. After trying a number of failed terchnigues to create my shape, I came up with this process:

1) I created one line segment with a circle and a triangle coming off it

2) I rotated this object 60°

3)Using another line segment I connected the two lines.

Here is my finished product.

Stage One Reflection

I will work with two other people (Tarquin and Lachlan) to create three shapes that will fit in to hexagons and be stacked on top of each other using enlargement.
Each person in my group will create a shape that either tesselates, reflects or ratetes into a hexagon. These will then be connected with short sticks to make a 3-D hexagonal prism.
